Though the games aren’t scheduled yet, tickets are now on sale for the first two games of the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs scheduled at the HP Pavilion. Due to the limited number of tickets, individuals will be allowed to purchase up to four tickets total, either two tickets to two games or four tickets to one game. Thursday-Sunday– Comedy at the Improv with Steve Trevino – Realizing his talent as early as the second grade, Steve Trevino has made people laugh ever since. He worked his way up at the local Improv Comedy Club in Texas, starting as doorman. He soon befriended comedian Carlos Mencia and the rest is history. Steve now works on a project for a new show on Comedy Central and continues to open for Mencia’s shows. Traffic and parking
Through 2006 – Due to the project to add HOV lanes to northbound Route 87, only the Downtown Connector from south of I-280 to Julian Street will be open from Sept. 12 into late 2006. During this period, the northbound ramp to 87 from Park Avenue will be closed. The connector is on the east side of the mainline of Highway 87. Expect added congestion and possible delays during the morning commute into and through downtown. Downtown traffic headed northbound will detour on northbound Almaden Boulevard and take the Notre Dame Street ramp onto 87. To get downtown from I-280, take the 7th Street, 11th Street, Almaden and Bird exits and stay off Highway 87.
Beginning April 10 through late 2006 – Light Rail changes – Due to Route 87 construction, southbound to Santa Teresa, light rail trains will intermittently run on the northbound to Alum Rock tracks. Southbound to Santa Teresa passengers must board light rail on the northbound to Alum Rock platform. Please pay attention to the train’s destination sign before boarding. Only passengers boarding at the Children’s Discovery Museum Station heading southbound on Santa Teresa trains will be affected. Please note this will not affect the light rail schedule.
VTA Light Rail Platform Retrofit
First St. between Saint John St. and Saint James St., Second St. between Saint James St. and Saint John St., First St. between San Carlos St. and San Fernando St., and Second St. between San Fernando St. and San Carlos St. The bus lanes will be closed intermittently for the retrofit but may be reopened for special occasions. This will last for through the summer typically between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m, though night work may be expected.
For the week of April 19
7 a.m.-5 p.m. – Activities will include excavation, rebar cage construction and concrete pours for the foundations of train electrical system poles and passenger shelters. Other activities will include installation of conduits and grounding straps.
